Theodore E. Allwardt, Sr. age 85, of Kearney, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Theodore “Ted” E. Allwardt, Sr. was born on July 10, 1934 in Willoughby, OH, to Erich B. and Olga R. (Grapatin) Allwardt. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School – Ft. Wayne, IN, in 1951. He received an A.A. from Concordia College – Ft. Wayne, IN, in 1953, and his B.A. from Concordia Seminary – St. Louis, MO, in 1955. He pursued graduate studies at Concordia Seminary and the University of Tuebingen in Germany. In 1959 he received his Theological Diploma from Concordia Seminary.
Ted was united in marriage to Marian R. Boriack on June 19, 1960 in Rome, NY. Ted and Marian were blessed with three children—Theodore, Jr., Carol, and Timothy. Ted was a pastor in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod where he served congregations in North Dakota, Missouri, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, and Nebraska. He was an avid writer, publishing several devotions in the Lutheran devotional Portals of Prayer. He also published three books—Rattlesnakes and Rainbows, Messages from the Coast, and More Rainbows Than Rattlesnakes.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marian Allwardt of Kearney; son, Ted Allwardt, Jr., and wife Ruth of Frederick, MD; daughter, Carol DeLoach and husband James of Kearney; son, Timothy Allwardt and wife Sarah of West Hills, CA; grandchildren, Ben Allwardt, Josh Allwardt, Abigail DeLoach, Zachariah DeLoach, Chris Allwardt, and Corinne Allwardt; sisters, Dot Nuechterlein of Valparaiso, IN, Ellen Thorson of St. Louis, MO, and Alys Allwardt of Portland, OR.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Hanna; and his brother, Rick Allwardt
