Don Holtsclaw, 81, of Cow Camp Rd., Newland, N.C., died Saturday, October 7, 2006.
A native of Avery County he was a son of the late Mack and Sarah Ann "Dollie" Ashley Holtsclaw.

He had owned and operated the Newland Shell Station for many years and retired from the Maintenance Department of the Avery County School System. A devout Christian, he was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon. He enjoyed woodworking and being with his family, he was a friend who could always be counted upon.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Arnold Holtsclaw of the home; sons, David Holtsclaw, and his wife, Donna, of Arden, Rick Holtsclaw, and his wife, Paula, of Spruce Pine; brother, Horton Holtsclaw, and his wife, Belva, of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Jennifer Holtsclaw-Cook, Deandra Miller, Devin Holtsclaw, Colton Holtsclaw, Zachary Holtsclaw; great grandchildren, Sarah Holtsclaw and Jesse Cook.
Interment will follow in the Minneapolis Cemetery.
