On July 26, 1983, Trooper Paul Ashburn, 28, was struck and killed by a truck while conducting a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway south of the City of Albany.
Trooper Ashburn had made a traffic stop and was standing alongside the vehicle when a truck veered from the driving lane and struck him and the stopped vehicle. Trooper Ashburn was killed instantly.
Trooper Ashburn joined the State Police in 1979 and transferred to Troop "T" in 1981. He was assigned to the Albany Zone Headquarters at the time of his death.
