Madeleine Robinson Hicks was born June 10, 1919 in American Fork, Utah to John Heber and Leah Bigler Robinson. She was the youngest of 3 children. She passed away April 21, 2006 in Pocatello, Idaho.
Madeleine spent her childhood in American Fork. She attended all of her primary schooling there, concluding at American Fork High School. She was very involved in drama and theatre, and won many awards with this talent. She attended Brigham Young University to further her education.
Madeleine met her life long companion and sweetheart, W. Grant Hicks while in American Fork. They were married July 18, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1956. From this union 3 children were blessed to have them as their parents. Dennis (Annette) Hicks, John (Suzanne) Hicks and DiAnn (Randy) Johnson, and currently 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who also have the privilege of their heritage.
Madeleine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and firend. She loved her family fiercely and served them untiringly and unselfishly. She was a lifelong homemaker. Her home was lovely and a place of order. She was a wonderful cook and took great satisfaction in gathering her family around the table, especially during the holidays. She did beautiful handwork. She loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel many places with Grant. She appreciated all beautiful things, whether it was nature, home decor, art, music or fine literature. Most of the places where she lived during her life, she was involved in literary clubs, such as Study Club in Blackfoot, Idaho and Dixie Reviewers in St. George, Utah. Through her associations, she made many lifelong friends, whom she always fondly remembered.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She gave a lifetime of service to her church, serving in the different auxiliaries fo the church. She served as Primary President, Relief Society President numerous times, Counselor in the Stake Relief Society Presidency, Stake Relief Society President and Assistant to the Matron in the St. George Temple. The greatest service she rendered was the years of tender, loving care given to Grant in their 63 years of marriage.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Myrl Despain, brother Don Robinson, and one grandchild, Erin Hicks, who all joyously awaited her arrival. Graveside services will be held in Amrerican Fork, Utah at the American Fork Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M.
