Esther Marie (Totman) Fredin was born on September 4, 1919 to Anna Betz Totman and Archie Totman in Washington township, Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. Esther and Verne Fredin were united in marriage on June 5, 1936 at the Swan lake Church, Nicollet County, MN.
Their son, Donald, was born while they lived in Winthrop, MN. From there the family moved to Henderson MN and then back to Winthrop. Then they moved to rural Cosmos then into town where they operated the Phillips 66 station. The next move was to rural Bird Island. In 1949, their daughter Julie was born. Shortly after, another move was made to Farmington. Finally, they came back to Cosmos in 1950. Esther and Verne bought and operated the Gamble store there for 23.5 years. Since their retirement they have both been active in Senior Citizens and church activities. Esther and Verne were Charter members of the Cosmos Methodist Church.
Esther was survived by her husband; her son Donald and wife, Norma of Kirkland, IL and her daughter, Julie Koehler and husband Randy of Cosmos; five grand children and 2 great-grand children; two sisters; Helen Halvorson of Alta, Iowa, and Lucille Berg of Winthrop; three brothers; Ray Totman of Spencer, Iowa, Harold Totman and Glenn Totman of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two sisters, Iva and Mabel.
Esther had Spinal Demyelination and had been in a wheelchair for many years. She suffered a heart attack on June 3, 1981 in the early morning and in the evening she passed from this world while in a peaceful sleep.
