OBITUARY: HARNED TUCKER SUCCUMBS TO TETANUS.
Randolph Harned Tucker died Sunday morning from tetanus, resulting from the wound sustained two weeks previous when his right leg was badly torn by a gate latch. The accident happened at the Tucker farm Saturday, August 31, when Randolph and Dan Kretchmar were riding a horse and the animal making a short turn at the gate crushed both boys right legs against the gate latch.
All that medical skill and careful nursing could do was done but infection set in. Anti-tetanus serum was given but the poison had already permeated his system. While he suffered considerable the last few days yet his death was peaceful and easy and he passed to his Maker as though sinking into sleep.
The funeral service was held Monday afternoon. The funeral cortege formed at the house led by Revs. Collins and Jett. Then came the boys and girls of the deceased's Sunday school class carrying flowers, followed by the Boy Scouts as pall bearers, and then the relatives.
Rev. Collins preached a touching sermon, the point of his text being "Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of God." Burial was in the Jet cemetery.
Randolph Harned Tucker was born in Jet December 3, 1910, and died September 15, 1918, aged 7 years, 9 months and 12 days. Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Tucker, two brothers , Clyde and Walter, and two sisters, Mary and Christina; also two grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Harned.
To the relatives is extended the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
