John and his children went from Pulteney, Steuben County, New York, to Walworth County. Wisconsin in 1839, traveling with an ox team and covered wagon. He took up 160 acres in Geneva Twp., Walworth County. He eventually owned 1,440 acres as well as a general store in Geneva.
