Area man murdered, wife wounded in shooting near town
Authorities are unable to determine the motive for a shooting Saturday night on Vulture Mine Road south of Wickenburg, which took the life of a Circle City man and wounded his wife.
Maricopa County Sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Duane Brady said Monday that the incident which took the life of John W. Laskowsky, 62, is still under investigation. Authorities are seeking "any information" that can help them track down the assailant or assailants in the crime.
Brady, the MCSO's Public Information Officer in Phoenix, said both Laskowsky and his wife, May Elizabeth Laskowsky, 39, were camping in a motor home about two miles south of U.S. Highway 60 (California Highway) off Vulture Mine Road, when the shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday.
Brady said the couple was shot through the window of their motor home by an assailant or assailants, and that the wife as able to drive the RV to nearby Rancho de los Caballeros for help.
John Laskowsky was pronounced dead at Wickenburg Community Hospital, and his wife treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, Brady said. Reports Monday said she was a patient at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City.
Brady said authorities have not yet determined the caliber of the weapon used in the crime.
Brady said police believe a party was being held at an area close by known as "Hospital Hill" and asked anyone who might have been there and seen or heard anything around the time of the incident on Saturday night to contact them.
"We don't have a lot to go on," Brady said of the crime, for which authorities have not been able to determiner a motive. "We would like to talk to anyone at that party (on Hospital Hill).
"They don't have to give us their name, they can do it anonymously," he said.
Brady said anyone with any information on the shooting incident can call the Sheriff's Office at 256-1087.
In addition to sheriff's deputies and members of the MCSO Sheriff's Posse in Wickenburg, officers from the Wickenburg Police Department also investigated the shooting.
The murder incident is the first in the Wickenburg area since a knife killing in 1989 involving two transients, one of which was charged with the crime and later convicted.
