Standley Madison “Stan” Johnson, 68, of Gridley, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Newman Regional Hospital in Emporia.

Stan was born February 9, 1951, in Emporia, the son of Perry Madison and Marjorie Belle (Cokeley) Johnson.

He was a life-long resident of Gridley graduating from Gridley High School in 1969. Following school he was employed by J & W Trailers in Virgil, KS and later he worked with his future brother-in-law, Norman Eccles, for Norm’s Plumbing.

On October 5, 1974, he and Cheryl Kathryn Eccles were married at the Burlington Christian Church. Shortly after their marriage Stan joined his father and brother in the family business, Johnson’s Plumbing and Electric. After the family business closed he operated Stan’s Plumbing and Electric until he retired in 2017.

In his leisure time Stan enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing pool and cards.

He and Cheryl suffered the loss of their only son, Jeramia Jason “J. J.” Johnson, on April 5, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Alan Eccles; and his step-mother, Martha Johnson.

He leaves Cheryl, his wife of more than 45 years; his daughter, Tammy Jo Rossillon and husband Joe of Leroy, KS; his daughter-in-law, Jenny Johnson-Hall and husband Andrew of Salina, KS; six grandchildren, Taylor, Tessa, and Tori Rossillon, Lane and Landon Johnson, and Olivia Hall; his brother, Gerald Johnson (Patricia), and his sisters, Patricia Redding (Johnnie) and Nancy Eccles, all of Gridley; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Gridley Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
