Perry M. Johnson, Jr., of Gridley died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington.

Mr. Johnson owned and operated Johnson's Plumbing and Electric from 1955 until he retired in 1983. Earlier, he worked at the Gridley Lumber yard and Kaufman's Electric. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 until 1945.

The son of Perry M. and Carrie M. Tipton Johnson, he was born Oct. 16, 1921, at Gridley. He married Marjorie Belle Cokeley on July 21, 1945, at New Orleans, La. She died Oct. 6, 1981.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Gridley Christian Church,. He was a 5–year member of American Legion Phillips-Stukey-Shaffer Post 296 in Gridley.

He is survived by two sons, Garold Johnson and Standley Johnson, both of Gridley; two daughters, Patricia Redding and Nancy Eccles, both of Gridley; one brother, Kenneth Johnson of Gridley; one half-sister, Rosita Petree of Moran; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Francis Johnson and Leonard Johnson; one sister, Darlene Shook; and one grandson, J.J. Johnson, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Gridley Christian Church at Gridley. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
