A native and lifelong resident of Soperton, she was one of eight children born to the late Lewis Cogle Durden and Mary Elizabeth Toler.
Mrs. Gillis was a lifelong member at Harmony Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Kermit C. Gillis and Curtis Graham, five siblings, Jessie Smith, Rayford Durden, Roy Durden, Molly Green and Trudie Hooks.
Mrs. Gillis leaves behind: her daughter, Sue Gillis Leslie (Paul J. Leslie Jr.) of Byron; a sister, Mary Burgess (Monroe) of Hendersonville, TN; a brother, Fred Durden (Joyce) of Soperton; two grandsons, Paul J. Leslie III, Johnathon Timothy Gillis Leslie; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Lisbeth Leslie; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Donnie Crosby officiating. Mrs. Gillis will be laid to rest privately in the family section of Westview Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 10:30 am until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested in her memory to In Touch Ministries, P. O. Box 7900, Atlanta, GA 30357.
