Funeral services for 83-year-old Myra Jones, of Slater, who died Monday, November 11, 2019 will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, at First Baptist Church in Slater. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Slater City cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weiker Funeral Home.

Myra D. Jones, 83, of rural Slater, died Monday, November 11, 2019 at her home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Slater, with Rev. Paul List officiating. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery, with Eli Davis, Nathaniel Jones, Kale Brucks, Brock Bult, Larry Murdock, and Stephen Kaplan serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Music Department at Slater Public Schools in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born July 11, 1936 in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Forrest C. and Alice Jacoby Shepard. On August 1, 1954 in Slater, she married Sam Jones, and he survives of the home.

Also surviving is a son, Dan Jones and his wife Kate of Overland Park, Kansas; a daughter, Ginger Brucks and her husband Bob of Slater; four grandchildren, Glenna Jones Bult and her husband Brock, Nathaniel Jones, Eli Davis, and Kale Brucks; and two great-grandchildren, Brody Bult and William Bult. She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Stafford.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the First Baptist Church in Slater, where she served as the Director of Music for over twenty years. She was a 1954 graduate of Slater High School, and a 1965 graduate of Missouri Valley College. She received her Master's Degree in Education from Baker University in 1980. While at Missouri Valley College, she was the music leader at Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall. She taught music, French, and High School English at Slater Public Schools from 1965 until her retirement in 2000. She was also the Yearbook sponsor during her tenure. Following her retirement, she served as the A+ Coordinator at Slater Schools for ten years.
