Dennis Eugene Anderson was born January 23, 1944, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the fifth child, but first boy born to Peter and Mildred (Larson) Anderson. He was raised with the four older female siblings and later also had a younger brother and another sister.

The Anderson family eventually left Sioux Falls and moved to Haysville, Kansas, a suburb of Wichita. It was here that Dennis graduated from Haysville-Campus High School with the Class of 1962. He then went on to graduate from Wichita State University with a Bachelor's Degree and a few years later he graduated from Friends University in Wichita with a Master's Degree in Theology.

From 1964 to 1977, Dennis was an officer with the Wichita, Kansas Police Department. He was one of the youngest to ever graduate from the Police Academy. During his years of service, he was the Unit Training Manager for the Family Crisis Unit. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Sergeant and retired from the department with the rank of Detective.

After retiring from the police department, Dennis began his second career as a pastor. He served several churches in both Wichita and Newton during the next few years. In 2012, he moved to Ottawa, Kansas, where he was an Assistant Pastor for Community Foursquare Chapel and currently was Pastor for Greenwood Baptist Church in Pomona, Kansas. He was also President of God's House Ministry with his wife, Sherry.

Dennis was a man who loved work and taking care of his family. During the years, he had worked at Lowes Department Store in Wichita and Ottawa COF. Whether working in hospital or another capacity, Dennis loved leading people to the Lord. He was a strong man of faith and the Holy Spirit was obvious in the way he lived his life. He was a member of Wreaths Across Franklin County, Chapter 912, Ottawa Vietnam Veterans. He was a strong man whose faith helped give him the strength to be a four time cancer survivor.

Dennis married Sherry Wright in Ottawa, Kansas, on June 1, 2013, who survives him. He is also survived by six children, Devren Anderson and his wife Cynthia, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Denise Anderson and Rudy Villarreal, Wichita, Kansas; Tamara and Stoney Strange, Inman, Kansas; Starleen Bradley and Greg Worthington, Pomona, Kansas; Darin Schmoe and his wife Teresa, Ottawa, Kansas; Darik Schmoe and his wife Rochelle, Lawrence, Kansas; his sister, Beverly Mardis and her husband Stephen, Wichita, Kansas; twenty-four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Marvin Phillip Anderson; and by four sisters, Doris Elliot, Phyllis Elaine Fulton, Maxine Delores Kerr and Marilyn Lavonne Efurd.

Funeral services were Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Community Revival Center, Ottawa, Kansas. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. Arrangements were handled by Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, Kansas.
