Doris (Anderson) Elliot was born November 27, 1935, in Garfield Township, Hamlin County, South Dakota. She was the first child born to Peter Engebrit Anderson and Mildred Alice (Larson) Anderson. In the next several years, the family enlarged to include sisters Phyllis, Maxine, Marilyn, Beverly and brothers Dennis and Marvin.

The Andersons were a farming family and remained living on the South Dakota farm throughout the early 1940's, during which time the children's father was drafted into the US Army and served in the Philippine's during the latter part of WWII. Peter returned home safely after the war ended and a few short years later the parents decided to leave farming and moved their family to Haysville, Kansas, a suburb of Wichita.

Doris completed her schooling in Haysville, then on August 26, 1955, she married John Philip Elliot in Wichita. The couple eventually became parents of sons John and Stephen and daughters Cheryl, Sharon and Sandra.

John's work resulted in the family living in several different places through the years, including South Dakota and Arizona. Upon retirement, Doris and John settled in Carthage, Missouri, where they remained until John's death in 2014. A few months later, Doris moved to Denton, Texas, where she resided with son John D. Elliot and wife Penni.

Doris passed away Saturday morning, May 21, 2016, at Denton Regional Medical Center, Denton, Texas.

Doris is survived by sons John D. Elliot and wife Penni, Stephen Elliot and wife Christine; daughters Cheryl Harts and husband Darwin, Sharon Bailey and Sandra Slocum and husband Russell; brother Dennis Anderson and wife Sherry; sister Beverly Mardis and husband Stephen; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Marvin Anderson and three sisters Marilyn Efurd, Maxine Kerr and Phyllis Fulton.

Memorial service was held May 27, 2016, at Church of the Nazarene, Carthage, Missouri, Pastor Dustin Ledford officiating. Knell Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
