Rock Island, TN resident and White County, TN native Melissa Jolene Carter Griffin, age 63, was born January 11, 1956 and died November 7, 2019 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a sudden illness.
An employee of The Lord's Table in Sparta, TN and member of the Church of Christ at Rock Island, she was the daughter of the late Joe Lee and Willie "Bill" Grace Gribble Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Carter and sisters, Joyce Jernigan, Wanda Qualls and Connie Carter.
Mrs. Griffin was married February 7, 1992 to Richard Griffin of Rock Island, TN. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Christopher Shane (Loretta) Henry of McMinnville and Kayla Griffin of Cookeville, TN; step-son, Stacy Griffin of Rock Island, TN; grandchildren, Annaston Grace Henry and Rachel (Bobby) Oliver of Sparta, TN; step-great-grandchildren, Xander Oliver and Kyson Oliver; sister-in-law, Virginia Anderson of Springfield, TN and sisters, Donna Gillentine and Paula Templeton both of Quebeck, TN and Linda Dodson of McMinnville.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Old Bybee Chapel Cemetery with Mike Steakley officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Sunday at High's.
