Born in Barnwell County, SC, he was a son of the late Eddie Black and Mattie Still Black. He was a member of Seven Pines Baptist Church. Raymond worked construction for EI DuPont and retired from the Savannah River Plant after 38 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and the community at Poplar Creek in Santee and also loved to shrimp. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Barnwell Hardees Breakfast Group. He was a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army National Guard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years Delores Kinard Black of the home; daughters Angie Black Edwards of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy (Timmy) Bodiford of Williston; sons Raymond Stevenson “Steve” Black and Jerry (Andrea) Hodge of Barnwell; brothers Clint (Donna) Black of Salley, Kenneth (Dot) Black of Columbia; grandchildren Stephanie (Michael, Jr.) Lott, Justin Edwards, Conner Edwards, Matthew Bodiford, Racheal (Chris) Bell, Kayla (Jacob) Hair, and Emma Grace Hodge; great grandchildren Michael Lott, III, Lauren Lott, Steven Lott, Ashley Lott, Anna Lott, Scarlett Edwards, Alexander Bell, William Bell, Catherine Bell and Turner Hair.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Earlis Hutto, Verlene Hutto, Evelyn Croft, Margie Croft, and a brother Curtis Black.
