James M. Hamrick was born in about 1810, the son of James Hamrick (1775-1834) and Margaret (Signor) Hamrick (1775-1818). According to a bio written by his son James Martin, he was known as "Little Jimmie Hamrick" (See link to bio below.) His brothers were Harrison Robert Signor Hamrick (1800-1860) and Harrison Hamrick (1803-1880), Baptist preacher. James married Vianna Sims (c. 1808-p. 1881). Together they had the following children:
1. Minerva Emaline Hamrick (1835-1874)
2. Mariah Elizabeth Hamrick (1837-)
3. James Martin Hamrick, Jr. (1838-1907)
4. Mary Missouri Hamrick (1839-1881)
5. Hesky Ann Hamrick (1839-1919)
6. Georgia Ann T Hamrick (1844-1821)
7. Susan Francis Hamrick (1844-1913)
8. Jane Hamrick (1845-1851)
9. Martha C Hamrick (1848-1921)
10. Hannah B Hamrick
11. (Son) Hamrick, according to son James Martin Hamrick bio, http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/carroll/bios/hamrick.txt

His will infers his death date was 1890. His will states that he requested his body be put in a "neat metalic coffin after death which is to be deposited in a vault which I have built at the Jos A Jordan burial ground..." This must be the Jordan Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County, where his daughter "Mrs. Emiline Smith" is buried. I have requested a photo by any volunteer who would be so kind as to look for his grave. I have copies of family letters that say he and his wife were placed in a mausoleum. "The caskets of his and his wife were placed on chairs inside the crypt and their children could see them whenever they wished... After many years, the foundation gave way and the mausoleum cracked, The bodies were removed and given a conventional burial".

Note: Thanks to "Kellybean" who noted while photographing in the Jordan Cemetery that she found no graves for him or his wife. Also, she did not find them listed in any Carroll County cemetery books. However, their graves may have lost their markers. James M. Hamrick, Sr. , stated in his will of 1890 that he had a vault built at the "Jos. A. Jordan" burial ground in Carroll County (as previously stated). The family letters state the vault was removed and they were reburied. So I will leave this memorial as Jordan Memorial Cemetery, due to the will and family letters which stated they were buried there. Please contact me if you have any information.

14 Sep 2021 Update: Another photographer thoroughly looked for the gravestones for Vianna and James Hamrick, and found none. There is no need in anyone requesting a photo.

James M. Hamrick

Hello,
Just discovered the memorial you added for James M. Hamrick. The community around the Old Jordan Cemetery is where I'm originally from. I want to relate to you something I know of the Hamrick tomb. We had a friend of the family a Mrs. Thelma M. Jordan who was a lifelong resident of that area, she lived to be 100 years old. Her husband was a grandson of Thomas Jordan who once owned all the property in and around the old cemetery that bears his name.
Mrs. Jordan told me that as a child, she and other children would play in and around the old grave yard. She said that the tomb had a little door that you could open up and look in and when you did you could look upon the face of Mr. Hamrick. She remembered his large bushy mustache. Mrs. Jordan was born in 1905, so the time frame was probably 1910-1920, I suppose. She never mentioned his wife's grave, just Mr. Hamrick.
She said that the tomb developed problems and was done away with. I know personally that their is no marked grave because I searched the cemetery 40 years ago when she told me this story.
Anyway your memorial has rekindled my interest in this. I've done a little internet searching the past few days and have added some items to your memorial, hope that you find it helpful.
Thank you,
