GOSHEN, IN. -- Oscar E. Roth, 95, of Goshen, died Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Greencroft Healthcare. He was born September 30, 1924 in Woodburn, Oregon to Amos and Sarah (Stalter) Roth. On August 12, 1950 he married R. Verelda Zook in Eureka, Illinois. She died May 27, 2007.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Roth Nuyken of Goshen; two sons, Randall (Mary) Roth of Goshen and Evan (Grace) Roth of Littleton, Colorado; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Freda Schmidt of Towner, Colorado.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Oliver and Jasper Roth and sisters, Florence Roth, Frances Bond and Fern Nice.

He worked in Glacier National Park for his CPS alternative service during World War II. Oscar graduated from Goshen College and later received his master’s degree from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago, IL. Mr. Roth was a high school choir director for 30 years. He produced and directed many Broadway musicals during his career. A member of Lombard Mennonite Church, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Mennonite Disaster Service and served as church choral director and song leader. He was an avid traveler, mountain hiker and photographer. In his retirement he enjoyed helping others remodel homes and tuning pianos. Oscar and Verelda moved to Goshen in 2005 and became members of College Mennonite Church.

Visitation was Friday, November 8, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church. Burial was at 10:30 at Violett Cemetery. An 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019, memorial service was held in the sanctuary at College Mennonite Church.

Memorial donations may be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
