Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at E. Viola and Son Funeral Home, in West Columbia.
Final viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Church.
Andrew was born on December 1, 1933 in Freeport, Texas, and passed away Saturday June 9, 2012, at Brazosport Regional Health System surrounded by is loving family.
His humble way will always be remembered and his kind and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Lee Bates Sr. and Mary Lee Bates.
Andrew leaves behind to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 52 years, Gladys C. Bates; along with their five children, Brenda Washington, of Clute, Marilyn McCoy, of Houston, Vickie Addison (Raymond), of Houston, Paula Walton (Lucius), of Fresno, and Andrew Bates III (Angela), of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Glenda Bates, Trista Jacobs (Darrell), Lawrence McCoy, Lauren Walton, and Addison Bates; and two great-grandchildren, Amari Derouen and Destiny Jacobs; one sister, Lois Sherwood (Jimmy), of Texas City, Texas; three brothers, Clarence Bates Sr. (Virginia) and Tim Bates (Eric), both, of LaMarque, Texas; and Alvin Don Bates Sr. (Elizabeth), of Freeport, Texas; a special cousin, Frank Bates (Aretha), of Brazoria, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
