Dumas, May 29 Christopher Christian (Chris) Smith 74, long time businessman and rancher in this area, died at 6:30 p.m. today in his home here.

Mr. Smith had operated the original Four-Way service station and grocery store on Highway 287 south of here. He retired and moved to Dumas in 1958 after the highway was widened, razing his business place.

Mr. Smith was born March 11, 1887, in Denmark, and he moved to the United States in 1904 and to Moore County in 1911. He once owned and operated ranchers in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma and worked on the Matador, Lanigon, LS, Terry Thompson, Chancelor, Waymouth, Sneed, XIT and Kritser ranches in this area.

Mr. Smith obtained his citizenship papers in 1918. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Cecil M Smith of the home at 1323 Klein Street, Dumas; two brothers, Chris Smith of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and George Smith of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, H.O. Roamussen and Mrs. Sarah Jensen, both of Chicago, and Mrs. J.W. Werdelin of Brandenton, Fla., and two other sisters and one brother all of Denmark.

Funeral arrangements will be announced from the Boxwell's in Dumas.
