Edel, Forty-nine years old, died unexpectedly at his home at 116 North East street at 6:00 o'clock Thursday morning, when he succumbed to a heart attack.
Officer Edel was widely known in law enforcement circles over the state, having been a trooper since Sept. 1, 1935. His appointment came after he had attended the first state police training school in 1935, and he had worked in this area from the Ligonier post since that time.
Born in Chicago Jan. 20, 1902, he was the son of Lawrence and Phyloma (Ellis) Edel. He came to Bremen with the family as a small boy and had lived here most of his life.
He was married to Grace Abbiehl of Bremen March 31, 1923. She survives with their son, Richard Edel. Surviving also are his father, Lawrence Edel, and two stepsisters, Mrs. P. P. Kleifeldt of Willoughby, Ohio, and Mrs. Ethel Newhouse of Kenosha, Wis.
Mr. Edel was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and of the Bremen Fire Department and the Northern Indiana Industrial & Volunteer Fireman's Association.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Glant Funeral Home, Rev. D. H. Pellett of Grace Evangelical United Brethren church officiating. Interment was in the Bremen cemetery.
