Regarding her birthdate, she could not have been born in 1830, despite what the headstone reads, because her oldest sibling, Catherine McKay, was the first McKay of this line born in North America, and she was born in 1832. In addition, five census records, and her marriage record, all point to a birth year of 1838. Sometimes headstones lie!
