Durango resident Margaret Elnora Mundt died from complications of Alzheimer's disease Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at her daughter's home in Durango. She was 88.
Mrs. Mundt was born to Grant Vincent and Anna Matilda Koons on Nov. 14, 1924, in Cañon City. She was the fourth of six children and graduated from Cañon City High School in 1942.
Later that year, she married John J. Dossett in Colorado Springs. They had two children together before the marriage ended in divorce.
Mrs. Mundt retired from Central West Basin Water District in Southern California as an executive secretary. She also did accounting and tax preparation throughout her life.
In the early 1950s, she married Dennis Walker in Las Vegas. The couple had a son together before the marriage ended in divorce in 1964.
After Mrs. Mundt's retirement, she and her husband, Bob Mundt, whom she had married in 1979 in Southern California, moved back to her hometown of Cañon City.
A woman with a lifelong love of horses and dogs, Mrs. Mundt enjoyed trail riding her horses with her friends in Cañon City well into her 80s. She also enjoyed studying scripture in a variety of Bible study groups and had been a Lutheran all of her life, her daughter said.
When her husband became ill in 2009, the Mundts moved to Durango to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gail Crook. While living in Durango, she attended the Alzheimer's Adult Day Care at Our Place and enjoyed her friendships and many activities there.
Mrs. Mundt was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Bob Mundt; and sons Robert Lee Dossett and David Ray Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Crook of Durango; sisters Louise Kulde of Cherry Valley, Calif.; and Leona Chase of Santee, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield. Chaplain Bill Ball will officiate.
