Charles E. Coons, age 83 years, of Pittsburgh, PA, died on Monday, May 12, 2008, in Kindred Health Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Born in Danville, IL, December 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Albert and Sylvia Coons. He had formerly resided in East Amwell Township, Hopewell, and Flemington, NJ, before moving to Pittsburgh two years ago.

He was a retired machine operator, formerly employed by Countryside Excavating, Raritan Township, NJ.

A United Staes Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Coons served with the 101st Airborne Division.

His wife, Helen Whited Coons, died in 2000, and a daughter, Helen Berry, died in 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Hufford of Delaware Township, NJ, and Grace LeMarie of Toms River, NJ; two sons, Clinton Coons of Nazareth, PA, and Steven Coons of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Stella Sherman in Illinois; ten grandchildren: Daniel, Jerry, Jr., Alicia, Brittany, Jessica, Tiffany, Amber, Austin, Kim, and Holly; and one great-grandson.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Hopewell, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
