Patricia Ann King Allgood

On August 4, 2016, Patricia Ann King Allgood, "Patsy" or "Pat," originally of Cedar Grove, MD and who lived most of her life in Damascus, MD, passed into eternal glory. Born on December 1, 1933 to Julian P and Sara E (Burdette) King, she married Elmer Dale Allgood in 1954, who precedes her in 2009.

Pat had been known from a young age as a singer. Her father said that her voice was too big for Salem UMC, their little church in Cedar Grove. She graduated from Damascus High School in 1951 and attended American University, where she had a couple radio shows on the university station called Sing with King and Chat with Pat, and Ed Walker coached her on the words to songs when she frequently forgot the lyrics.

In the early years of their marriage, Pat and Dale moved around the country - Kansas, Alaska, and Texas, due to Dale's military service. Wherever they moved, Pat was involved in the chapel and the choir, even managing to be the choir director and pianist at times.

To say she loved music would be an understatement.

She was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church, and was active in Community Bible Study until she could no longer physically make the studies each week. She was an experienced phone operator, and worked in various administrative positions for NIH until her retirement in 1993. Her greatest joy came from being with her family.

She is survived by her daughters Nita (Mark) Lawson; and Stacy (Rick) Allgood-Smith; daughter-in-law (who became a daughter) Bina; grandsons: Blake (Amanda) Allgood, Brent (Kaitlyn) Allgood; great-grandsons Mason and Crue Allgood; and sister Betty (Oliver) Baker. She also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pat was predeceased in death by her parents; her brother Julian King, husband Dale Allgood, and her sons, Brooks, and Gilbert Blake Allgood.

The family would like to thank the staff at Homewood at Crumland Farms, for their loving care of Pat in her final months here on earth.

Visitation will be 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Monday August 8th at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28325 Kemptown Road, Damascus, MD where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9 in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow in Salem Methodist Cemetery, Cedar Grove. MD.
