Jeremiah Hess was the 7th child of 15 children of Abraham Hess (1762-1821) and his wife Elizabeth Ann (Fisher) Hess (1769-1851) in Belfast Township in what was then Bedford County, Pennsylvania but now part of Fulton County since 1850.

Jeremiah was a twin brother of Jacob Hess (1792-1876) who died just four months before Jeremiah. The two brothers married two sisters. Jacob married Mary Daniels (1795-1882) and Jeremiah, a year later, married her younger sister Catherine. Jeremiah truly loved Catherine and had a long, happy, 62 year marriage.

The 12 children of Jeremiah Hess and wife Catherine Daniels are as follows:

1. Mary "Polly" Hess (1815-1865) named after her mother's favorite sister Mary (Daniels) Hess (1795-1882). Mary married twice (1st) William Morgret (1815-1850) with whom she had 3 children. (2nd) Benjamin Garland (1834-1904) with whom she had 1 daughter. Her FAG ID#119347639.
2. David Hess (1818-1888) married Mary "Polly" Morton (1818-1880) with whom he had 5 children. David and family moved west to Blackford County, Indiana where he died and was buried. His FAG ID#199793898.
3. Aaron Hess (1817-1891) named after his maternal uncle Col. Aaron Daniels (1788-1844). He married Anna Amy Garland (1834-1911) with whom he had 12 children. His FAG ID#28653195.
4. Dennis Hess (b. Dec. 1823) named after his maternal uncle Dennis Daniels (1802-1881) who became Sheriff of Fulton County, Pennsylvania. Young Dennis married Frances Morton (1814-1850) with whom he had 3 children.
5. Abraham Hess (b. March 20, 1825) named after his paternal grandfather Abraham Hess (1762-1821). Young Abraham died shortly after birth.
6. Daniel Hess (1825-1845) named after his maternal grandfather Daniel Daniels (1763-1849). Daniel died of Scarlet Fever just before his 20th birthday. His grandfather and namesake outlived him by 4 years.
7. Sarah Ann Hess (1826-1900) married Bartimus Smith (1826-1903) with whom she had 4 children. Her FAG ID#77527327.
8. Adam Hess (b. 1832) twin brother of Job. Died young.
9. Job Hess (1832-1880) Married twice (1st) Elizabeth Hart (1834-1863) with whom he had 3 children. (2nd) Margaret Decker (b. 1842) with whom he had 8 children. His FAG ID#90166973.
10. Florinda Hess (b. Aug. 29, 1834 - d. Sep. 2, 1834) Died in infancy.
11. Dorothy Sara Hess (1834-1912). Second wife of Adam Hess (1821-1900) with whom she had 3 children. Her FAG ID#29964756.
12. Catherine Hess (1839-1922) named after her mother. She married Thomas Hessler (1824-1904) with whom she had 2 children. Her FAG ID#99290195.
