Jonathan Leroy Hoover, 80, of McClure Road, died at 10 p.m. October 2, 2019, at his home. Leroy was born August 10, 1939, in Columbus, the son of Henry and Marie McKinney Hoover. He married Kathy Johns June 1, 1980.
He retired from the Golden Foundry after 33 years of service. After his retirement Leroy enjoyed cooking for Broad Acres Restaurant in North Vernon and Cummins through Aramark. Leroy was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church and attended Trinity Baptist Church when in Tennessee.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2019, at Flintwood Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Wes Jones, Paul Blair, Keith Wilson and Glenn Poynter officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, October 17, at the church. Inurnment at Garland Brook Cemetery will be at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jonathan Leroy Hoover Memorial Fund through the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Irvin (Becky Vires) Hoover of Greensburg, Allen (Melody) Hoover of Hope, Rita (Jeff) Huddleston of Elizabethtown, James (Joanna Monroe) Hoover of Columbus, Anna (Andy) Walter of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Jonathan Hoover of Columbus; brother, David (Sue) Hoover of Columbus and sisters, Delilah Ogle of Columbus, Rebecca (Pete) Graham of North Vernon, Leah (Veral) Jackson of Brown County, Martha Ness of Columbus, Mary (David) Sharpe of Taylorsville and Naomi (George) Frazee of North Vernon; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four beloved Chihuahuas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Hoover and mother, Marie Hoover; first wife, Wanda Hoover; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Ogle and Ed Ness.
