Bernard James Rubar, 83, passed away October 9, 2019 at the Lewis County General Hospital Nursing Home; where he had been a resident.
Bernie was born on July 4, 1936 in Town of New Bremen, a son of the late Fred L. and Arletha M. Lomber Rubar.
He attended Beaver River High School. Following school he served in the US Army and upon returning home he began farming and took over the family farm on 812 Road in New Bremen. He then moved to Bealuck Road and became a heavy equipment operator and worked construction for various businesses up until he retired in 2004. He was also a member of the Engineering Union 565.
He was an avid hunter and gardener, enjoyed woodworking, he dearly loved animals and bred German Shepherd's.
He married Anna N. Roggie in 1960, the marriage ended in divorce.
Among his survivors are six children, Carol (Edward) Gersten of Liverpool, Rodney Rubar of Lowville, Donna Pacilio of Pennsylvania, William Rubar & his partner Shawn of Florida, Linda and Scott Montgomery of Florida, Kathy Rubar of Glenfield, seven grandchildren Ryan, Caleb, Sean, Craig, Brandon, Tyler and Garrett, 2 great grandchildren, three sisters, Doris Myles of South Carolina , Joann Santora of Virginia and Beveraly Bevere of California, one brother and sister in law Walter and Mary Lou Rubar of New Hampshire, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Gerald, and Niles Rubar, and two sisters, Regina Copoccia and Frances McIntyre.
Arrangements are with the Iseneker Funeral Home.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday October 15th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Lowville Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society P.O. Box 682 Lowville, NY 13367.
