Sergeant First Class Jeremy Wayne Griffin was born on December 7, 1978 in Cristóbal, Colón District, Colón Province, Panama, the son of Charles Griffin and Diana (Morris) Griffin.

He was married to Amy English.

Jeremy enlisted into the US Army on April 6, 2004 and was serving in the US Military with 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). His awards and decorations included Bronze Star Medal-2nd Award, Army Commendation Medal- 2nd Award, Army Achievement Medal- 4th Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal- 5th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Special Forces tab, Ranger tab, Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Military Freefall Badge, and Meritorious Service Medal.

The many schools Griffin graduated from included the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center's Basic Korean Course; Ranger School; Basic and Advanced Military Free Fall Parachutist Course; Military Freefall Advanced Tactical Infiltration Course; Special Operations Joint Terminal Attack Controller Course; and the Special Forces Intelligence Sergeants Course.

Formerly of Clarksville, Tennessee, Jeremy was on his fourth combat deployment: He deployed 1st with the 82nd Airborne Division to Iraq in 2006 and to Afghanistan in 2009. He later deployed to Afghanistan in 2016 with 1st Group, and then he served on an overseas rotation to Korea in 2018. He was 40 years old when he was killed in action by small arms fire during combat operations in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on September 16, 2019. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.

He was survived by his parents, his wife, a son, a daughter and a sister.

Celebration of Life Services with full Military Honors were held at LifePoint Church, and burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
