J. D. Brisendine, the son of Francis Marion Brisendine (1844-1871) and Martha Frances Coats (1841-1911), was born on November 17, 1865 near Mesquite, Dallas County, Texas. His father died in 1871. He is believed to be buried in the Pleasnt Mound Public Cemetery as M. Bridendine with no dates.

At the time of the 1880 Census of Precinct 4 of Dallas County, Texas his mother Martha (Coats) Brisendine was married to Charles H. Hill. In 1880 the Hill household consisted of: Chas. H., a farmer, age 60 (VA VA VA); his wife Martha, a house keeper, age 39 (TN SC KY) and her Brisendine ons: J.D. Besedine, a farm hand, age 13 (TX IL TN); and Lee Besedine, a farm hand, age 9 (TX IL TN).

Jay Dee Bresendine married Mary Elizabeth Marks, daughter of Watts Marks, Jr. and Docia Delilah Bennett, on October 11, 1888. Mary Bridendine died on May 12, 1940. J. D. Brisendine died on October 11, 1950. He was buried with Mary as J. Dee Brisendine in the Old Bennett Cemetery in what is now a section of the Laurel Oaks Memorial Park located in Balch Springs, Dallas County, Texas.

Jay Dee Brisendine, 84, died Wednesday at his home in Dallas. He was born in Mesquite Nov. 17, 1865 where he engaged in the meat business for many years peddling from house to house. He was a school boy at Scyene during the escapades of the Jesse James gang. / The Brisendine family came to Texas from Tennessee and were important figures in the development of this section of Dallas County. / Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McCullough Funeral Home in Mesquite with Rev. C. C. Phillips and Rev. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery. / Pallbearers will be Donald West, Hardy Brisendine, Carl Brisendine, Bob Howell, Clinton Howell and Earl Brisendine, grandchildren. / Survivors include six sons, J. H. Brisendine, F. C. Brisendine, F. U. Brisendine,(and) O. O. Brisendine of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Howell and Mrs. W. E. Howell both of Dallas and Mrs. B. B. West of Mesquite; a half-brother, Elder Hill of Los Angeles, Calif.; thirty-eight grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.

VPB Note: Traditionally it was the Younger Brothers, who attended school in Scyene, Texas and later became members of the Jesse James gang and not Frank and Jesse James who attended school at Scyene. However, Frank and Jesse did visit Scyene from time to time.
