Perry Deane Young was a renown journalist, author, playwright, historian- and professional gardener. He arrived in Saigon as a war journalist/ correspondent on January 29, 1968, the day of the Tet Offensive. He was the author of "Two of the Missing" ( 1975 ) the story of the disappearance of two of his fellow journalists. He is also known for his work, "The Dave Kopay Story", co-written with Dave Kopay, and several other non-fiction works. He co-penned three plays with William "Billy" Gregg - "Frankie" ( 2001 ) - "Mountain of Hope" (2004 ) - and "Home Again" ( 2009 ).

I am making the assumption that Perry was cremated. If I find out more detailed burial info I will add it. If you want to honor his memory you could visit the UNC Chapel Hill campus, of which he was a graduate, and where he was a grounds gardener in his latter years. Or you could wander some of the wooded areas in the Newbridge area of Woodfin, NC, that he roamed as he studied the plant life in his youth. Or, better yet, read one of his books. When I was a child my grandmother would take me to his family's greenhouses when she bought her plants, especially geraniums, every spring. The earthy, primal aroma of the place has always stayed with me, and I ended up spending 27 years, 1973-2000, working at Hyman Young Greenhouses, (Perry's half-brother ). I have only recently made the connection.
