Reverend Roy Vincent Young, Sr., 90, of East Bend, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born on November 27, 1918 in Buncombe County to Robert Finley and Della Ward Young. Rev. Young was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had previously pastored at Fines Creek Baptist Church in Haywood County, NC; Ross Baptist Church, Bethany Baptist Church, and Elm Grove Baptist Church, all of Bertie County, NC; Forsyth Park Baptist Church (formerly Hawthorne Road Baptist Church) of Forsyth County, NC; First Southern Baptist Church of North Glenn, Colorado; Fork Baptist Church of Davie County, NC; Enon Baptist Church of Yadkin County, NC; and Robinhood Road Baptist Church of Forsyth County, NC. His career in the ministry lasted over 60 years and throughout that time Rev. Roy was known for his care and concern and for his ministry of presense to every member of his congregation. Rev. Roy' s pullpit was the world and his platform for sharing his love of his lord through revivals and foreign mission trips. He satisfied his love of travel and nature through the establishment of Rocking R Tours, which he owned and operated during his retirement years. Rev. Roy will be tremendously missed by his family and all of those who knew him. Surviving are the love of his life and sweetheart, Rachael Juanita Wiles Young, to whom he was married for 68 years; daughters, Sharon (Joe) Moorefield of Lewisville, and Shirley (Jerry) Simpson of Asheboro; sons, R. Vincent (Kathy) Young, Jr. of East Bend, and Richard Finley (Karen) Young of East Bend; brothers, Robert Terry Young, and Perry Dean Young; sister-in-law, Nell Young; eight grandchildren, Shawn (Martha) Young, Shannon (Sean) Habas, Shalene (Kevin) Massie, Kristen Moorefield, Daniel Moorefield, Shannon Leigh Simpson, Shakara (John) Canter, and Shane Young; four great-grandchildren, Wesley Young, Camden Young, Noah Canter, and Payton Canter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Robinhood Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. The body will lie in-state at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
