Rufus Montague was my 4th great grandfather.
Rufus Montague served in the Army during the War for Independence. He fought at the Battle of Bennington. When Thomas Chittenden chartered the town of Fletcher in Franklin County in 1781, Rufus Montague was one of the proprietors. He was also the only proprietor to ever reside in Fletcher.
Rufus Montague married Catherine Sanford in July 1786 in Pittsford, Rutland County, where he had purchased land in 1783. They had eight children: Betsey, Junia, Samuel, Thomas, Catherine, Rufus, Joseph Sanford and Azubah.
