Born November 11, 1932 in Duplin County she was the daughter of the late John Henry Merritt Sr. and Hattie Myrah Murray Merritt Nichols. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Teresa Blanton, grandson, Jacob Lee “Jake” Blanton; sister, Elsie Lee Thompson; brothers, James Leroy Merritt and John Henry Merritt, Jr. and one son-in-law, Donnie Pittman.
Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church of Wallace.
Surviving is her best friend and devoted husband of 71 years, Johnnie Carlton "Buddy" Blanton; children, Ann Blanton Pittman of Wilmington, John “Johnny” Henry Blanton, Sr, and wife, Laura of Wallace, Lois Blanton Watkins of Burgaw; grandchildren, Jason Tyler Pittman, John Henry Blanton, Jr. and Amber Jane Dixon; great grandchildren, John Morgan Blanton and Jordan Michele Blanton, Avery Blanton, Jaley Carr and Paxton Dixon; sister, Peggy Ann Trammell of New Iberia, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family that loved Dorothy dearly.
Dorothy was a loving wife and caring mother, grandmother and sister. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a special relationship with each one of them and was very proud of them. Dorothy loved for her grandchildren to visit and she would sit for hours on her back porch watching them play and swim. With a big heart, Dorothy always prepared a ‘goody bag’ for everyone who came to her house. She loved flowers and spending time with her family. She was a kind and loving lady who will be greatly missed.
