Judith Marie (Williams) McIrvin

Judith Marie (Williams) McIrvin passed away Thursday, March 6 in her home. Born on January 17, 1947 to Thomas and Aileen Williams in Boulder, Colorado, Judy was an identical twin; she was 67.

Judy attended schools in Boulder Colorado graduating Boulder High in 1966. She attended Lamar Community College in Lamar Colorado where she studied cosmetology. It was during her college days at a dance in Deer Trail, Colorado she met her husband, Donald McIrvin. They married on July 10, 1968 in Boulder Colorado. Shortly after marrying, Judy's husband was deployed to Vietnam and upon discharge they lived in New Jersey. They later moved to Loveland, Colorado where they made their home for many years and then moved to Ault, Colorado where they raised four children, Christine, Donny, Ruthann and Kimberly. They lived in Ault for nearly thirty years until Don's passing. Judy moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 2007 to be near her grandchildren.

Judy and Don were known for their involvement in rodeos and auctions throughout Northern Colorado and for their business "D&J Pony rides" in which they traveled the Front Range for family and corporate functions and town gatherings.

Judy worked at Monfort Portion Foods and King Soopers in Greeley, Colorado and later became employed for Safeway Foods. She worked at several Safeway stores throughout Northern Colorado and was known for her impromptu singing for customers and co-workers. In 2005, she retired from Safeway in Windsor, Colorado after she was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and was declared legally blind.

Though Judy's sight slowly dimensioned and her world became dark she proved to her children and acquaintances that life goes on. She was accepted to the Guide Dogs School for the Blind; Boring, Oregon campus in 2006, along with her twin sister Mary Susan who was also declared blind. They both spent many weeks training to utilize a service dog. Judy was partnered with Salome a black Labrador who would become her companion and best friend and ultimately give her a great sense of independence.

In Rock Springs, Judy advocated with local representatives for utilization of Americans with Disabilities Act funding to install audible street signals, handicap accessible walk entries and computer programs in libraries for the visually impaired. She was thrilled when these tools were installed and the importance of the items recognized. Judy was known by many individuals throughout Rock Springs as she was always out walking with Salome; challenging herself and her abilities. Her openness to introducing her guide dog to curios individuals as well as her visits to schools where her grandchildren attended has brought awareness to the once unfamiliar knowledge of a service dog in Sweetwater County.

Judy loved spending time with her grandchildren, Kolin, Kolbi, Ashlyn, Ridge, Kevin and Colton. They were her pride and joy and though at times she was limited to what she could do with them she treasured their presence.

She will be remembered as being an exceptional "green thumb" as her homes were always surrounded by beautiful flowers in which she gave very special attention to and often avoided time away during growing seasons as no one could quite care for her plants like she did. She enjoyed attending movies at the theatre with her grandchildren, traveling to Oregon to visit her sister, loved music of all kinds, theatrical performances, classical movies, Christmas time and building gingerbread houses.

Judy is survived by her children, Christine Thomas (Nate) Green River, Wyoming; Donny McIrvin (Tracy), Orchard, Colorado; Ruthann Wolfe(Creighton), Rock Springs, Wyoming and Kimberly Foran (Pete) Rock Springs, Wyoming; six grandchildren, twin sister, Mary Susan Phillips(Wayne) Beaverton, Oregon, Marlene Soroto(Alan) Sarasota, Florida, Oregon; brothers, David Williams and Kenneth Clark; sister-in-law, Laura Jane Carroll(Terry) Milliken, Colorado; aunts, uncles and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and her beloved guide dog, Salome, and very dear friends, Marilyn Jereb, Melisa Mueller and Ronnie, Dawn Mueller and Stephanie Green.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald, mother, Aileen, father, Thomas, step-father, Marlow Clark, and sister, Patricia Lacy.

Following cremation at the Vase White Mountain Crematory memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M Wednesday March 12, 2014 at Monroe Avenue Baptist Church, 295 Monroe Avenue, Green River, Wyoming. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Longmont, Colorado at a later date. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Guide Dogs for the Blind, 32901 Southeast Kelso Road, Boring Oregon 97009.
