Mark Dean Lyons, 90, of Streator passed away Friday September 20, 2019 at 5:00PM at a private care home in Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11: 30 AM Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Visitation will be from 9-11 AM on Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator with full military honors. Pall bearers will be Patrick, Owen, and Colin Lyons, Derek Kruger, Curtis, and Jared Groesbeck.

Born April 20, 1929 in Streator he was the son of Edward and Susan Lyons. He married Nelda Etenburn on June 13, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Streator.

Dean is survived by daughters Lynne (Duane) Kruger of Streator; Lisa (John “Nick”) Groesbeck of Streator; sons, Mark (Debbie) Lyons of Ottawa and John (Julie) Lyons of Ottawa; grandchildren Patrick (Kristin) Lyons of Greensboro GA; Danielle, Masie, Owen and Collin, Lyons of Ottawa; Kiley (Drew) Sabol of Bloomington IL; Dereck Kruger of Streator; Curtis, Jared, and Shaelyn Groesbeck of Streator ; great grandchildren Landon, and Jace Lyons of Greensboro GA; and his sister Susan (Lyons) Newman of Streator.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Nelda, two children in infancy, his parents, two brothers Owen and Edward and a sister Helen (Lyons) Walsh.

Dean attended St. Mary’s grade school and Streator High School. Dean served in the US Army in the 428 Engineering Company during the Korean conflict and following his service worked as a carpenter for many years with Joe Hatzer and son General contractors and later working for the Streator grade school district as Head of Maintenance until his retirement. After retirement Dean enjoyed woodworking, his grandchildren and camping with his wife.

Dean was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish and formerly belonged to Immaculate Conception Church. Dean was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Streator Elks Club and a member of the American Legion and a former member of the VFW.

Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Children’s Fund.
