Denny was born April 7, 1953, in Anderson to Bobby (Robert) and Esther (Lawhon) Jarvis. He resided most of his life in Anderson.
Denny attended Anderson High School before enlisting in the Army. He was stationed in South Korea and Fort Bliss, Texas. Denny was a "tanker" in the First Cavalry Division while stationed in South Korea. His love for the military and country was his greatest passion. He was commended for being very proficient with the operations of an Abrams Tank. Denny received a letter of appreciation for the outstanding support regardless the mission as the ammunition NCO leader for the 1-9th Cav. Also, he received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding and professional support of the First Squadron Ninth Cavalry M551 during Annual Sheridan Gunnery. Denny was first an ammunition specialist and then was promoted to a sergeant/tank gunner. He served a total of eight years proudly for his country.
After his military service, Denny was a roofer, painter and worked at the Pendleton Correctional Facility for 12 years. He later was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, which was the beginning of the end. Even after 10 years of gradual decline Denny was able to smile with his loved ones. He showed our family no matter how tough or difficult things got he kept going, not giving up.
Denny loved his family and is survived by his daughters, Alyssia Jarvis of Anderson and Jennifer Baker of Alexandria; son, Nicholas (Abbie) Hawley of Jefferson, Oregon; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother, Esther Jarvis; brothers, Rodney Jarvis and Robert "Bobby" Jarvis; sister, Denise (John) Blevins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Robert Jarvis; sister, Sandra Kay Jarvis; brother, Ricki Jarvis; niece, Devin Jarvis; and brother-in-law, John Rosencrans.
A heartfelt thank you from the family to the wonderful staff at the Veterans Hospital in Marion on units 172-1B (Hospice) and C for their devotion and loving care for Denny. There aren't enough words that can express about the staff who took care of Denny and they are so much appreciated.
