Monroe Marcilous Jones was born in Waveland, Yell County, Arkansas to Cleason D Jones and Nancy Annie (Shott) Jones.
As a small child he moved with his parents and siblings to McGee, Indian Territory of what is now Stratford, Garvin, Oklahoma. He attended school, but as most children of the time stopped going to help earn a living and help with the crops. In my grandfathers diary it is supported that he worked along side his father at many times, more so after the death of his oldest brother Willie Newton Jones.

When World War One began he enlisted into the Army on September 12, 1917 at Stratford, Garvin, Oklahoma. Upon his return he married his first wife, Mary Lou McGuire the daughter of Henry and Sarah McGuire, on April 3, 1920 at Stratford, Garvin County, Oklahoma. They had two children, Jewell Annavee Jones who married Frank Kelley, and Virginia Lucille Jones who married Robert Jacobson.
His young wife Mary Lou died out in California, and he brought her back to Stratford and buried her at McGee Cemetery.

My Uncle Monroe at one point around 1930 served as Mayor of the small town of Washington, Oklahoma prior to his move to California.

After the death of Mary Lou he married Opal Johnson. She helped him raised his two young daughters. He at one point owned a furniture store, and a hotel at Sulphur, Oklahoma. After he moved to Oklahoma City, he bought another furniture store located in Stock Yards on South Agnew and owned it until he retired.

He was baptized late in life by Lewis Hale of the Southwest Church of Christ where he attended until his health declined. He died on May 24, 1988 at the South Park Nursing Home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He is buried in the Masonic section at Resthaven Memory Gardens next to his second wife Opal.
