MANTUA - Melvin G. Shaffer, Sr. 85 of Mantua, formerly of Pennsylvania, Warren, Ravenna and Streetsboro, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019.

He was born March 24, 1934 in Everett, PA to Emmanuel and Neitha (Schenck) Shaffer. He retired in 1999 from Swagelok in Solon, where he was a machine operator. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. He volunteered his time at Kent Social Center and the Center of Hope in Ravenna.

Survivors include his children Althea (Eric) McDonnell, Marie Hendrix, Caroline (Steve) Stephens, Melvin “Bud” Shaffer, Jr., Mark (Laura) Shaffer, Christian (Tracy) Shaffer, James (Lynne) Shaffer and Jonathan (Lee) Shaffer, 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and siblings Orpha Lehman, Ivan Shaffer, Roy Shaffer and William Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Helen in 2000 and Beth in 2008, son in law Randy Hendrix and brother Oscar Shaffer.

Calling hours will be from 2 - 4 PM Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, 9781 Page Road in Streetsboro, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, September 23, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Schofield officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Township Cemetery in Vienna, Ohio.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Western Reserve and Kindred Hospice for their care and support.
