Timothy J. McDonald, 72, of Waterbury, entered into the gates of heaven on September 16, 2019, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a courageous fight with his health surrounded by his loving family. Timothy was the loving husband of Nadine (Nardozzi) McDonald.
Timothy was born in Waterbury on December 5, 1946, son of the late Thomas N. and Catherine (Donahue) McDonald. After graduating from Sacred Heart High school, Tim continued his education at the College of Holy Cross receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Accounting and then received his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at Fairfield University.
Tim’s impressive career in education spanning 44 years started in 1968 at Waterbury Catholic High School and then to Holy Cross High School in 1971. The two schools merged in 1975. Teaching was just one of the family roles Tim filled. After teaching for 12 years, he then moved into administration where he served the role of vice-dean and then dean. Tim served as Principal from 1989 until 2007 when he then became president until his retirement in 2015. During these 44 years, Tim also spent 20 of them coaching a very successful basketball program.
Tim’s impact on Holy Cross High School can never be replicated. The amount of love and support showed by the school to him over his career could not be put into words. The school’s gymnasium was dedicated to Tim for all he did for the school.
Besides his wife Nadine, Tim leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Meghan L. McDonald of Boston, his five siblings, James J. McDonald and Denise McDonald of Waterbury, Thomas N. McDonald (Cheryl) of Naugatuck, Cathleen McDonald of South Portland, ME, Edward J. McDonald and his wife Mary of Southbury and Ann McDonald-Ellis (Marc) of Utica, NY. Tim also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
