Michael McDermott, a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at the home of his nephew, Jos. McDermott, in Stanton on Tuesday [3-19-1918], following an illness of six weeks of kidney trouble.

Mr. McDermott was ninety years of age. He was born in Ireland [1830 according to a record of Plymouth County Veteran Burials] and came to America when a young man. He served as a soldier during the civil war and after securing an honorable discharge engaged in farming. He was among the early settlers in Plymouth county. He never married. Of late years he made his home among his nephews and nieces.

Six of his nephews acted as pallbearers at the funeral which was held yesterday morning at St. Joseph's church [Neptune] in Lincoln township, Rev. M.Carey officiating.

At the grave side in accordance with the request of the deceased services were held by member of the G.A.R. Mower Post, of LeMars, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery
adjoining the church.

The members of the G. A. R. who went to the funeral from here are, Wallace Winslow, T. J. Boland, T. J. Carpenter, Wm. Parker, M. Hilbert, John Ruble, W. S. Freeman and Jason Scott.

Mr. McDermott was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and was a good citizen and neighbor.
