Manuel J. Aschinger, age 87, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 25th, at the United Church of Christ at Lake View. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-9:00 p.m., Monday, April 24th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.

Manuel was born on June 29, 1918, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of John G. and Kathryn D. (Peters) Aschinger. He attended Carroll County Country School.

On August 31, 1945, Manuel was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Brotherson at the Presbyterian Manse in Vail, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Paul, Karen, and Kevin. Manuel was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lake View, where he served as an Elder.

Manuel loved to farm, tending the crops and doing custom corn shelling for others. He "officially" retired in the late 1980's, but kept active up until his death driving truck and helping Bonnie with the dog kennel. Manuel's life was the farm but his love was his family. Attending his children's sporting activities, taking his children and grandchildren fishing and bowling, and dancing the polka kept him very active. They will cherish these memories and hold them close to their heart. Their family and friends helped Manuel and Bonnie celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on August 31, 2005.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie and children, Paul Aschinger and wife Kaye, Karen Grell and husband Dean, all of Vail, IA, and Kevin Aschinger and wife Lindy of Westside, IA; 11 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; and 11 step great great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his two brothers: Marlin Aschinger and wife Lorraine of Deloit, IA and Veryl Aschinger and wife Jody of Wall Lake; two sisters: Delores Rowedder and husband Leroy of Manning, IA and Joann Trost and husband Paul of Churdan, IA; sister-in-law, Bernita Carstensen and husband Wallace of Odebolt, IA; many extended family members and friends.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Reuben and Don; step grandson, Scott Campbell; and step great-grandson, Shea Campbell.
