He was born in Macon County on April 8, 1948 to the late Burl and Nellie Nelson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Sara Nelson; brothers, Garland and Charles Nelson; grandchildren, Silvia Goodson, Sara Anaheim, Tracy Ross, Joey Creasman, and Joshua Seitler.
Left to cherish his memory are his nine children, Judy (Randy) Tobias, Peggy (Kenneth "Amey") Messer, Karen Conard and Kyle Cook, Renee' (David) Gresock, Mary (Jim) Carver, Pam (Tim) Burnette, Tina (Richard) Plemmons, Hubert (Erika) Nelson, and Shonda Nelson and Justin; grandchildren, Angie Creasman, Nicholas Creasman, Steve Goodson, Tony Goodson, Shannon Goodson, Jade Messer, Shane Conard, Michelle Lucie, Pless Conard, Stacey Gresock, Rachel Gresock, Tim Lindsey, Don Hollingsworth, Colleen Doll, Monica Hall, Jacob Burnette, Crystal Plemmons, Lasha Plemmons, MJ Ross, Jenn Gustin, Rebecca Nelson, Laura Nelson, and Allen Seitler; thirty four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two sister, Martha Nelson and Euniv Jawgiel of Lenoir, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Thomas, Steve Goodson, Tony Goodson, Gary Dale Seay, Paul Mull, and MJ Ross.
