Ruth Lillian Robertson, age 87 of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away and went to her heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. She was born on January 23, 1932, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to Charles Preston, Sr. and Melvina Legendre Robertson.
Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula for 76 years. Ruth worked 75 non-stop years. Her first job was picking strawberries at age 7. In high school she worked at Thibodeaux's Grocery in Millville. Next came working for the feed store, where Buddy DuFreche hired her to work at his bus station. Ruth handled sales for rides to Hammond on his Inter-Cities Bus Line and the Greyhound Bus Line. Greyhound moved several times and she moved right along with them. Western Union joined in and Ruth did telegrams by teletype. She received the Longevity Award in 1999 for 48 years of Service from Greyhound Bus Lines.
Ruth is survived by her sister, Joyce Robertson, her nieces and nephews, Phillip Trosclair (Ann), Bobbie Lou Watters (Ben), Susan Boffone, Jan Ciolino (Sal), Ann Morgan (Bill), Mally LeSaicherre (Danny) and Bobby Thompson (Jessica), also numerous great nieces, nephews and close friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Preston, Sr. and Melvina Legendre Robertson, her sisters, Shirley Thompson, Clara Durham and Coralie Perkins, her brothers, Charles Preston Robertson, Jr. and Pete Robertson, her nephews, Wilmer "Bo" Robertson, Steve Robertson and Terry Boffone.
A Visitation for Ruth will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula in Ponchatoula. A Funeral Service Celebrating Ruth's Life will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 am in the church. Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula.
