Bartolomej (Barta) CODR was born in April of 1830 in Hrotovice in the district of Znojmo, Moravia. In the early 1850's he married Marie PRIBYLOVA and they had 9 children (the first 7 were born in Moravia): Frank, Katerina (CERNY), Marie (INKS), Franziska (HUMLICEK), John, Albert, Anna (PAROLEK), Petrolena (MRAZ) and Josephine (ROLENC). They came to America arriving at Baltimore, Maryland on November 8, 1873 after crossing the Atlantic on the steamer "Ohio." At first he rented land and by January of 1878, Barta was able to purchase an 80 acre homestead in section 31 of Bohemia Precinct in Saunders County, Nebraska. Barta and Marie both died at Abie in Butler County at the ages of 81 and 90 respectively.
