Frank A. Shaffer, 81, died at the Lewistown hospital recently. He had been a resident of Orblsonla, in Huntingdon county, for 20 years. The Rev. McCahan of the Orblsonla Methodist church officiated at the funeral. Interment was In Black Log Valley cemetery, near Orblsonla.

A strange coincidence was made Mr. Shaffer unknowingly made his own casket. He was a former master carpenter and expert hand finisher. Some years ago he worked for an Orbisonla undertaker and fashioned several fine caskets from black walnut wood. The family felt It fitting that he be Iaid In what the mortician pronounced the finest casket Mr. Shaffer had produced.

Born at Somerset May 13, 1858, Mr. Shaffer was a son of Levi Shaffer and Mrs. Jane (Carroll) Shaffer. When Frank Shaffer was a small boy, the family went to Iowa to establish a permanent home, but Mr. Shaffer returned east and for a time was a foreman in one of the departments of the old wire mill In Johnstown. Later he family moved to Allentown, and Mr. Shaffer In his later years chose Orblsonla as his last residence.

Mrs. Shaffer, the former Miss Mary Chilcoat of Johnstown, died 10 years ago. Surviving Mr. Shaffer Is one daughter, Mrs. Sue Carroll (Shaffer) O'Leary of Wellsboro. Two other daughters preceded him In death Lillian, wife of Thomas Brooks, and Margaret, wife of Amos Krasley.

Mr. Shaffer leaves only one grandchild. Miss Margaret O'Leary of Wellsboro. Three sisters survive. They are Mrs. Lodle Kelso, Colorado; Mrs. Adda Bucher, Oreeley, Colo., and Mrs. Etta Outhnecht, Cambria, Cat. Frank A. Shaffer was an ardent fisherman and hunter, vigorous and active until his last Illness.
