Becky Lowe Crawford, 67, of Franklin, North Carolina (formerly Quincy, Fl) died unexpectedly Friday evening, August 30, 2019. She was born September 23, 1952 in Bluefield, West Virginia, to Jim and Lucy Hammer Lowe. She along with her parents and brothers moved to Tallahassee, Florida in the 1960’s where she spent most of her life and where she graduated from Rickards High School in 1971.

She met the love of her life, Tom, at the local drag racing strip in Tallahassee and married him in 1971. After he joined the Florida Highway Patrol in 1973, she became the “wife behind the badge” moving with him to their lifetime duty station in Gadsden County, Florida and supporting him throughout his FHP career. She began the path to her own career by driving a school bus for Gadsden Christian Academy and becoming a teacher’s aide in kindergarten. She later became the full time kindergarten teacher at Gadsden Christian/Tallavana Christian where she taught hundreds of children to read and write throughout her career. She was also known for her K-5 graduation productions that she wrote and directed each year. She later worked at Little Lambs Pre-School where she continued her love of teaching until her retirement.

In 2015, she and Tom fulfilled a dream to move to the Western North Carolina mountains where they found the perfect stone house on a hill where they could enjoy the rest of their lives. She was known to sit in her rocking chair with a cup of coffee on the front porch as she caught up on the day; where she fed the birds and animals and talked with the neighbors. Her front porch was the favorite place for the neighbors to stop and “sit a spell”.

Her life motto was that “strangers were just friends you haven't met yet” and she believed that wholeheartedly. Whether you knew her as “Miss Becky”, Mrs. Crawford, Becky, Aunt Becky, Mom, Grandma Becky or Goonie - she touched the lives of all that knew and loved her with her friendship, her outgoing personality, her hugs, her contagious smile and laughter and her love. We will miss and love her forever. She loved her “dragonflies”, the Florida State Seminoles, making quilts, exploring the mountains, watching Outlander, traveling and being a wife, a mom and a Goonie to her family.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, David and Kevin Lowe and her brother in law, John Crawford. She is survived by her husband, Tom Crawford of Franklin, NC; sister-in-law: Linda C. (Lee) Brega of Pensacola, FL; daughter, sons and daughters-in-love: Tracie Crawford of Franklin, NC; TJ Crawford of Havana, FL; Matt (Lisa) Crawford of Quincy, FL and Dave (Misty) Pritchett of Weeki Wachee, FL; her 8 grandchildren: David (Kirsten) Pritchett, Matt Crawford, Drew (Makayla) Pritchett, Anna Machado, Grace Machado, Ashley Pritchett, Jackson Machado and Collin Crawford and 4 great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Aurora, Maci and Madilynn; numerous nieces and nephews; her grand-pets as well as her many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (https://www.michaeljfox.org) .

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Bevis Funeral Home with visitation following. Burial will be at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at noon. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Franklin, NC at a later date.
