Services for Miss Virginia Bates will be held Thursday, September 5, 2019, at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Ben McDaniel, Rev. Larry Savell and Rev. Bobby Jack Henley officiating. Burial will follow in Beatline Cemetery in Neshoba County. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a. m. until time of service at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Bates, 82, of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Beatline Community in Neshoba County. She was a longtime agent for Philadelphia Insurance Agency in Philadelphia. Miss Bates was a member of Beatline Baptist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School.

Survivors include sisters, Charlene B. Stamps of New Orleans, LA, and Henrietta Wooten (Roy) of Irving, TX; brothers, Kenneth J. Bates (Sarah) and Thomas Bates (Martha), all of Philadelphia, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Miss Bates was preceded in death by parents, Ethel and Marion Bates; and brother, William Bates.
