Evelyn (Ponchot) Williams, 82, of Colleyville, Texas, passed away at 6:32 p.m., on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Glenview Wellness and Rehabilitation in North Richland Hills, Texas. Evelyn was born January 5, 1937, in Maineville, Ohio, to the late Wilbur and Martha Mae (Estell) Ponchot. She was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband of 48 years, Russell Edward Williams.

Evelyn was an Army wife and worked in elementary education for nearly 20 years as a secretary, librarian, and teacher on the Fort Huachuca military base in southern Arizona. She and Russell were residents of Sierra Vista, Arizona for three decades, where they raised their three children and ultimately retired in the late nineties.

In 2008, Evelyn moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to be closer to her children and grandchildren. After coming to Texas, she was a volunteer with DFW Airport Ambassadors, an active member of the Grapevine-Colleyville Newcomers Club, and taught Continuing Education classes at Tarrant County College.

She is survived by her three children, Russell A. Williams of Evans, Georgia, Sandra L. (Randy) Hicks of Irving, Texas, and Laurette G. (Mark) Wheeler of Lakeside, Texas; four grandchildren, Lindsay Hicks, Bethany Hicks, Courtney Wheeler, and Kevin Wheeler; sister-in-law, Carol Ponchot, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Ellen Light, Ruth Hill, and Martha Stevens; and brothers, Wilbur “Bill” Ponchot, Eugene “Gene” Ponchot, Paul Ponchot, and Roland “Rolly” Ponchot.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the Chapel of Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home of Irving assisted with the local arrangements; Hatfield Funeral Home, 8305 South Highway 92, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 (520) 458-5120 will be in charge of all Arizona arrangements.
