Martha (Ponchot) Stevens, 80, Marion, died at 2:36 a.m., on Sunday, May 31, 2015, in her home. She was born to the late Wilbur and Martha (Estell) Ponchot. On September 12, 1953, she married James A. Stevens; he preceded her in death in 2010.
Martha is a high school graduate, and devoted her life to being a homemaker. She took great joy in spending time with her family and many friends. Martha also enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, crossword puzzles, and reading.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Jan) Stevens, Cape Coral, FL and Rhonda (Alvey) Smith, Dublin, OH; 5 grandchildren, Janelle (Andy) Merritt, Joshua (Sara Lyn) Stevens, Brandon (Megan) Smith Adam and Rachel Smith; 4 great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Parker, and Kiarra Merritt and Ella Stevens; sister, Evelyn Williams; sister-in-law, Carol Ponchot, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her sisters, Ellen Light and Ruth Hill, and brothers, Wilbur “Bill” Ponchot, Eugene “Gene” Ponchot, Paul Ponchot, and Roland “Rolly” Ponchot.
Services for Martha will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E. 38th St. Marion, IN 4693 with Pastors Robert Van Cise and Joel Gearhart officiating. There will be a private burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Marion, IN 46952. A second time of visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Wesleyan Church or Family Life Care Hospice.
